EVERYONE WELCOME, PRIZES FOR BEST COSTUMES, GROUP PHOTO IN JOURNAL ARGUS,  VIDEO VOUCHERS, BALLOONS AND TREATS FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS


Pre-registration available at St. Marys Library, or Via Station, or Schools for reduced fee:

  • $5 each or $13 per family of siblings
  • Face Painting ($1 donation) 9:30-10:30am
  • On Site Registration: Arthur Meighen School 9:00-10:15 am ($6/$15)

  • Saturday, Sept 19, 1998 10:30am - noon
  • registration 9-10:15 am at Arthur Meighen School (north end of Wellington Street)
  • on site registration only $6 each/$15 family

 

When and Where:
  • Registration will occur at Arthur Meighen School 9:30-10:15 am Saturday September 19th
  • Arthur Meighen School is located at the north end of Wellington Street St Marys near the level access to the Grand Trunk Trail
  • Parade events will occur 10:30 to 12:00 with all registrants initially receiving a balloon
  • Parade will start from Arthur Meighen School at 10:30 and while doing a "congo-train" enter the Grand Trunk Trail and cross the Sarnia Bridge. A treat (liquorice or cookie) will be received at the West end before following Mark Fletcher with his bag-pipe back to the school. At the school participants will receive a popsicle.
  • Children will then move over to "The Flats" at the base of the Sarnia bridge for an "aerial" Journal Argus Newspaper photo (taken down from the bridge) at approximately 11:30
  • Judging of best costumes for prizes will occur at approx.11:45-12:00 noon

Purpose:

  • stimulate the kids to enjoy themselves on the fantastic new pedestrian bridge in St Marys
  • fundraising event to further the development of the Grand Trunk Trail walkway
  • encourage classroom involvement in the Grand Trunk Trail

Teacher/Classroom name plaques

  • school classes that have 14 or more registrants (maximum of 3 of the 14 can be friends/siblings of a classmate) will get a name plaque on a bridge board (example: Ms. Faceys 1998/1999 class)

Prizes:

  • every participant will get a balloon, liquorice or cookie treat, popsicle and photo(group) in Journal Argus (St Marys weekly newspaper)
  • best costume prizes will be selected after the parade and photo
  • best costume categories include: train-theme, animal, scary, silly, original idea, celebrity look-a-like, misc, clown, animated (eg Disney) character, youngest entrant
  • 3 randomly selected names will get prizes
  • 2 randomly selected names will carry the leading parade banner
  • 6 randomly selected names of 11+ age will help lead the "congo-train" line on the first half of the parade
  • each participant will receive a Staffens video rental voucher

Photo Puzzle:

  • group photo will be turned into a puzzle to commemorate the event and will be available later for purchase (estimated cost $15-20)

Cost:

  • pre-registered children pay only $5 each or $13 for siblings
  • on site registrants pay $6 each or $15 for siblings
  • pre-registration through the schools, at St Marys Public library or at St Marys VIA Station
