And the winner is! ...

On Saturday, April 4th at the noon, by the Town Hall bells, Bob Baird of Baird Lumber Company Ltd. made the first of two draws on behalf of the Grand Trunk Trail.

The first was for the Satchel of Garden Tools. The eligible tickets were those purchased on April 2nd and 3rd at the local financial institutions in our final push to sell tickets for the Garden House.  The winner was Lou Corriveau. Quite by co-incidence, his wife, Iny, was walking by.  The presentation of the Satchel was made to her on behalf of Lou.  The Corriveaus can start work on their gardening immediately.

The second draw for the Garden House itself was then made by Bob Baird.  After a make-shift drum roll from the small crowd, Bob reached in and drew the winning ticket purchased by Roy Bendall of St. MarysCongratulations Roy! and thanks to Bob Baird for doing the honours.

If you are in the right place at the right time this week, you will see the the neatest little house in St. Marys go up Queen Street toward its new and lasting resting place.   We hope you will enjoy your new house, Roy.

"The time is approaching ..."
The Grand Trunk Trail committee can report an encouraging month of progress. As you may have read in last week's Journal-Argus, the Baha'i International Dinner was a delightful evening of exotic foods and entertainment by Zoran Nikolic. Our fundraising coffers were increased by $620 because of the efforts of the Baha'I Community of St. Marys.

Recently, the St. Marys Hospital Foundation gave us a cheque for $15,000 and followed that with a challenge to raise another $10,000 which will be matched.

The Kinsmen Club has voted to purchase the fixtures that will light the Sarnia Bridge. This financial contribution amounts to $15,000. And the good news continues!

Blue Circle Cement will donate sufficient material to form a cement pad at each entrance to the Sarnia Bridge. The Design sub-committee of the GTT has plans for these two entrances which require a solid base. Leo Nicholson Construction will provide the manpower, gratis, to form and pour the cement.

So much local generosity is uplifting.

Phone calls and e-mail have been received from London and Victoria, B.C. relaying both moral and financial support for the project. The work that Alan Powell and Tony Reynen contribute to the Website is paying off in letting the world, including former residents of St. Marys, know about the Trail. [http://stonetown.com/gttsm]

The Grand Trunk Trail committee is planning to take part in the annual Stonetown Heritage Festival events. On Saturday, July 11th we will be having our second Trunk Sale at the Flats.  If you are doing Spring cleaning (or should I say "Summer" considering the recent temperatures?!) and come across items that you would consider donating to our GTT sale table, contact any committee member. Arrangements can be made to collect them. No large appliances, please.

The time is approaching for this Trail to happen. Thank you all for your support and encouragement.
